Figurine of a fisherman Fisherman figurine made of ivory. The figure is holding a spiny lobster in one hand and a basket of fish in the other. eyes painted with black paint. The figurine is placed on a black wooden base in the shape of a rock. Japanese production of small carved figurines increased around 1880, they were trinkets destined for export to Europe. Decorative objects of this type were used as desk and furniture decorations called okimono or netsuke, they became popular among the growing market of collectors in Poland and Europe. Japan, first half of 19th century.
