Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: Furniture and interior furnishings
The Łańcut residence, belonging to the Potocki fee tail estates and nationalised by the agrarian reform in 1944, became the beginning of the national museum. In its endeavours, the Castle-Museum focused not only on securing, preserving, and making the castle interiors and their furnishings accessible to the public, but also on enriching the collections with its own purchases or sponsored donations. These efforts support the conservation of the atmosphere of the house of a well-known aristocratic family on the museum's expositions. The displayed small table is an acquisition of the Museum-Castle in Łańcut, which came from donations. The gilded piece of furniture decorated with woodcarvings was made in the 19th century. It imitates historical styles from the 18th century. The curved legs finished with volutes at the bottom are inspired by the Louis XV style (Rococo). In contrast, the shape of the table top and the rich woodcarvings are done in the Louis XVI style (Classicism). This handy table supplemented the furnishings of the 'Rococo Salon' on the second floor of the castle. In the second half of the 19th century, the Rococo Salon, together with neighbouring rooms, belonged to the apartments of subsequent young married couples from the Potocki family: Alfred II and his wife, Maria (née Sanguszko), and Roman and his wife, Elżbieta (née Radziwiłł).
