Women’s wedding shirt

The shirt for the festive costume of Krzczonów comes from the village of Jabłonna, in the municipality of Bychawa. It was made by Helena Kuśnierz before the First World War. It is 62 cm long and 67 cm wide. It is sewn from white factory linen, creased at the hem, and consists of eleven parts: a front, a back, two sleeves, two cuffs, two side panels, two gussets, and a collar. It has an opening at the front fastened with a single button, and at the collar there are two holes through which a white ribbon is pulled and tied in a bow. The sleeves and the upper part of the sleeves are decorated with narrow darts, between which white factory lace is sewn. The wide cuffs are decorated with eleven rows of horizontal stripes embroidered with lockstitch in white thread and fastened with six small buttons. Similar embroidery is used on the large, padded collar along its three edges.

The shirt has a relatively modest decoration, which may indicate that it comes from the last period when the Krzczonów costume was worn. It may also have been used by a married woman, who wore a kaftan over it, obscuring most of the shirt. Only the collar and part of the cuffs were visible. In this period women's shirts were already much shorter, i.e., they did not play the role of a petticoat. They were worn separately or their use was abandoned.
