View of the Chinese-Style Pavilion A watercolour on paper painting, from the collection of the Lubomirski family, the former owners of the Łańcut Castle, behind glass, presents a Chinese-style pavilion. A series of similar paintings, showing how to arrange gazebos and pavilions in the Chinese style, fashionable since the end of the 18th century, was ordered by Marshall Princess Lubomirska. This is testified by entries about the paintings made in the castle inventory of 1802. The painting presents the Chinese style pavilion, comprising a façade and two wings, the entire structure covered with a “pagoda” roof, with corners arched upwards. The roof is covered with grey patinated tiles in the shape of a cylinder cut in half. The main part of the pavilion is single storey, while the wings only have an open ground floor. The shoji walls are made of polished wood and translucent paper with geometric motives in the main section and painted landscape in the wings. The structure is set on a foundation of grey stone. An alley leads to the pavilion and three steps with fancy edges. The picture was enlarged by being placed on a white cardboard. All paintings in the series have identical frames ˗ wooden with imposed plaiting and rosettes in corners, probably a Vienna product. The pictures probably date back to the turn of the 19th century and were created in China as templates. They are exhibited in the bedroom of the Chinese Apartment on the first floor of the Łańcut Castle.
