Part of the collection: The story of King Maciuś according to Iwona Chmielewska
The work presents a crown composed of eight open envelopes (the closing element of the envelope, raised, forms the tops of the crown) and a boy - Maciuś, sleeping on a sheet of lined paper with a red border. Illustration for Korczak's important motif of King Maciuś the First - writing back to letters by the king. On some of the envelopes making the crown (on those located further from the viewer) there is an indication of the addressee - the king. Some of the envelopes contain children - senders of letters; from the left : a boy in a sailor's outfit, a child in a white cap, a girl with a blue flower and a yellow floral dress, a sad girl in a scarf and a letter in her hand. barefoot. Children resemble those known from the project Blumka's Diary by Chmielewska. Especially the girl in a yellow dress - she is dressed as Blumka was dressed. Also the card on which Maciuś is lying is a quote from that project - his leitmotif were lines from such a page. The composition was made in a technique typical of the works of Iwona Chmielewska: a collage of drawn elements and cut pieces of paper with prints, and a blue cardboard from the cover was used for the upper background, with a spine line visible in the center. It can be said that in some way this collage technique found its extension at the exhibition - children could take one of the unfolded pages during the tour and write their own letter to King Maciuś, and put it in a box.
