Cutlass

The cutlass is a single-edged hunting weapon used for finishing off game during hunts. Over time, it evolved into a ceremonial weapon, becoming part of the hunting attire. Some cutlasses were made from broken sabres, swords, or rapiers. The Łańcut cutlass features an etched ornament on the back of the blade, depicting acanthus leaves among which a dog chases a deer. The hilt is made of deer antler, while the bronze pommel is shaped like a wild boar's head. The leather scabbard has three brass fittings. The upper fitting contains a socket designed for a small knife. A gold fabric pendant is attached to the scabbard. The Łańcut cutlass was made in Austria, dating back to the 19th century. The total length of the cutlass is 84.7 cm, while the scabbard measures 68.5 cm.
