Candlestick

Tin casters were craftsmen who made vessels and other utility objects of tin. Due to the durability of the material and the aesthetics of the products, tin products were used as furnishings in churches, castles and the houses of the wealthy burghers. Over time, many unusual tin products came to be, such as jugs for storing water or milk, as well as bed warmers. In Pomerania, one of the most active guilds of tin makers operated in Szczecin, with more than a hundred craftsmen making tin products professionally between the 15th and the mid-19th century. One of them was Joachim Friedrich Krüger from Berlin, whose artistic output included a chalice made for the church in Pinnow in Brandenburg. He was connected with Szczecin since 1654, when he managed to obtain civic rights. As a citizen of the city, he made various objects, including the presented tin candlestick. What is more important, an identical artefact with engraved inscription – Anna Maria Steobann and Samuel Schumacher Anno 1663 – is a part of the collection of the Museum of Central Pomerania in Słupsk.
