Part of the collection: Painting and drawing
Portrait of a Turkish nobleman A small painting from the collection of the Lubomirscy family, purchased by marshal’s wife for the Turkish Apartment (later given to Henryk Lubomirski, her adopted son). The small painting depicts the head Janissary commander, shown as a full figure, in profile, wearing a red coat lined and framed with brown fur, decorated with galoons with golden studs. The man wears on his head what is called a bork, decorated with gold-lined bands with white feathers on the top, and a back tail of black feathers. The person wears yellow saffian shoes. We do not know the author, he was a French painter from the 18th century. The painting has a wooden, gilded and profiled frame, with a bead ornament band along the inner edge, the outer edge decorated in a repeating pattern of a pair of styled acanthus leaves, rolling towards the inside, arranged symmetrically on both sides of a shell volute; it is displayed in the Turkish Apartment on the ground floor of the Castle of Łańcut.
