Stralsund held the minting right for more than four hundred years (1325-1763) and during this time pursued an independent monetary policy. The privilege guaranteed full minting rights for the town, including its own minting issue, Münzfuß, and depictions on the stamps. During the reign of the dukes, the city's minting activities were limited only by a minting ban if the duke's mint was not in operation. The death of the last Pomeranian duke in 1637 and the handover to Swedish rule did not change Stralsund's minting situation. It was still independent and subject to the legislation of the Reich from 1559. Loyalty to the monarch was symbolically demonstrated by the two-headed eagle and the titulature shown on the reverses of many Stralsund coins. In terms of images, the coin presented here follows the example of this denomination, first minted in Stralsund in 1623 at the time of the Great Depression known as the Kipper und Wipper. It is now a new type of coin, lighter and smaller in diameter bearing revised inscriptions. The obverse face shows the customary representation of the municipal coat of arms and an inscription stating that it is a coin of the city of Stralsund. On the reverse, the characteristic horizontal inscription is surrounded by the regular legend. The rim is lacking the original sentence from the previous period, comparing a full-value coin to a good grain. It was replaced by an inscription stating affiliation with the German monetary system. The initials CS refer to Münzmeister Caspar Sievers, who held the office between 1637 and 1162. Genowefa Horoszko
