Figurine of a juggler Japanese figurine of a street juggler-conjurer, playing an instrument, holding a rope dancer boy on his shoulders above his head. In his hand the juggler holds a balance beam made of feathers. Chordophones are a group of musical instruments in which the sound source is a vibrating string stretched between two points. The instrument is constructed of a wooden sound box and strings and headstock.. Jugglers are ancient traveling artists who entertained the public with their circus tricks and illusions Japanese production of small carved figurines increased around 1880; those were the trinkets intended for export to Europe. Decorative objects of this type were used as desk and furniture decorations called okimono or netsuke became popular with the growing market for collectibles in Poland and Europe. Japan, signed Ichigyoki (?), second half or late 19th century.
