Torah Shield
ca 1779 — 1780
Museum of the history of Polish Jews
Part of the collection: Torah scrolls in the POLIN museum collection
Silver yad with a handle divided into three parts. Two outer ones are made in filigree work (goldsmithing technique consisting in decorating the object with thin wires arranged in an openwork mesh); the central one is plain, with an overlay in the form of a five-petal flower with two leaves. The pointer ends with a tridimensional palm of a hand with an extended, ringed index finger. The end of the handle is finished with a filigree, flattened knob with a lion standing on its hind leg, with its head turned backwards.Donated by Joanna Baczała.
