Nowy Świat.

Part of the collection: Photography

Popularization note

Nowy Świat is a street in Warsaw, in the Śródmieście district, the former Royal Route. The name "Nowy Świat" refers to the new settlement developing outside the city walls in the 17th century. Over the following years, the street developed a lot, and in 1908 it was possible to move around Nowy Świat by tram. A significant part of the buildings on this street was destroyed in 1939 during the defence of Warsaw. In 1947, the reconstruction of the buildings at Nowy Świat Street began, an asphalt surface was laid, and traffic lights were placed.

The photograph shows the destroyed buildings on Nowy Świat Street.

The photo comes from the album of the Lubomirski princes from Przeworsk.
