During the period of constant price increases caused by inflation, there was a need to constantly increase the amount of physical money. For this purpose, municipal governments used stored notes from the early days of inflation, which were put into circulation after new values were printed on them. The authorities of Koszalin did so, using the notes issued in October of 1922 – on 24 August 1923, they issued new notes worth 100, 500 and 1000 marks of different series printed on paper from Brazil, with the CASA DA MOEDA watermark. The denomination of the 1,000 mark note was changed to 500,000 marks. The new value was printed in green Fraktur-like font. diagonally. At the same time, the old serial number was invalidated and a new one was added. An information was added in the same green colour that the reprint was made on the basis of the resolution of the city council of 21 August 1924. The change in the value of the note was made only on the front. The reverse remained unchanged and still shown the old denomination – all due to cost and reprint time. Issuing new batches of substitute money into circulation was only a temporary solution to the problem of cash shortage. The successive issues of notes and banknotes with increasingly higher denominations strengthened the people's belief that the paper mark was losing its value. This resulted in a further inflation of prices, leading to a shortage of cash for handling transactions.
