Part of the collection: The portfolio of graphics "La Mémoire Gravée" by Izaak Celnikier
Blocksperre in camp slang was a term referring to the ban on leaving the camp housing blocks. The ban was usually introduced when the camp authorities wanted to carry out certain activities without witnesses, such as large-scale executions, selections, etc. The memory of the camp dictionary accompanied Celnikier, like other prisoners, throughout his post-war life, so it is not surprising that he used it to title his works. The frame of the composition described above was filled tightly, almost claustrophobically, with the figures of standing and sitting prisoners, paying exceptional attention to the details of their emaciated bodies.
