The German title refers to the order given to prisoners to strip naked. Most often, that meant being condemned to immediate extermination in a gas chamber. The figures, brought out by the scant light from the dark background, gathered in a multi-figure composition, are usually not yet naked. On some faces there is still uncertainty, on others – already terror.
