Stanisław Potocki

Stanisław Potocki (1825-1887) was the son of Aleksander (from the branch of Wilanów) and Izabela Mostowska, the grandson of Stanisław Potocki - the son-in-law of Izabela Lubomirska, the owner of the Łańcut Castle. Owner of Berezhany in Galicia. In 1854, he married Maria from the Sapieha family. In 1882, their daughter Izabela married Roman Potocki from Łańcut, future Third Lord Ordynat. The marble bust of Stanisław Potocki was made by the French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Gustave Deloye (1838-1899) in 1870. It depicts Potocki as an older man, with his head turned slightly to the right. He has an oval face with a distinguished full chin, a bushy moustache, and bristling sideburns of swirling curls. The pupils of the eyes are hollowed out with a drill. The smooth hair is combed to the right side, curled up at the temples. Potocki is dressed in a broad coat with deep folds running diagonally. On the base of the bust, there is a low relief of the Potocki Pilawa coat of arms. This bust is an example of the neo-baroque trend in European sculpture of the second half of the 19th c., present in the work of Deloye. Barbara Trojnar
