A letter

Part of the collection: Correspondence from Emilia Endler Ratz

Popularization note

The letter from Emilia Ratz to Halina Altman. From the contents: I met Celina. On 13, 14 and 15 April there was a regional assembly and I was there too. After the meeting, when everyone got up, I saw a lady, admittedly very fat, but with Celina's face. She didn't recognise me at first, because I'd lost weight, as she told me later. [...] He works (you will laugh) as a bookkeeper. But now she is collecting herself to get fired, if she succeeds (I have the impression that she is still and I think she will succeed) and to go to a pedagogical institute. She is looking very well, just flourishing. Her husband works as the head of the tailor's guild, so they are doing quite well financially. She doesn't know anything about Jurek after the evacuation. Gutka is here with her Ukrainian husband, somewhere near Kuybyshev. Celina lived with her for 1½ years, there was a marriage triangle, Gutka's former lover, etc. She doesn't know anything more about anyone. Well, that's gossip. It's business as usual for us. We work and wait'.
