Side rein for the harness set

Part of the collection: Vehicles and harnesses

Popularization note

SIDE REIN for the harness set. The resources of the Łańcut stable buildings were enriched in the 1920s with the harnesses of Count Mikołaj Potocki coming from his Paris stables at Friedland Avenue. Parisian travel harnesses in black patent leather have fittings made of brass. Apart from entire sets, the Łańcut collection also includes parts of harnesses, such as several side reins used in gala and sporting English-style carriages to make the horses' bow their heads. The described side rein consists of two analogous, leather straps sewn together in the round, to which are attached small rings and at the other end small buckles. The two straps are connected by a common, narrow strap, threaded through the rings and folded in half with an overlapping slip, which forms a loop for attaching to the side rein hook at the horseback mounting.
