Untitled

Part of the collection: Critical and post-critical art

Popularization note

The primary medium of expression for Katarzyna Szeszycka (born in 1983) is painting. The artist successfully combines her technical skills and mastery of classical painting techniques with unconventional artistic activities carried out on the borderline of other art genres such as photography, video or artistic interventions in public spaces. The painting, which constitutes the middle part of a triptych, was painted in 2012, just like the remaining two parts. It was included in the collections of the National Museum in Szczecin following the Pełnia – Realizacja exhibition, which was organised there that year. The project with the same title was created thanks to the artist's cooperation with photographer Konrad Królikowski and was entirely devoted to Rokita - a small West Pomeranian town where Szeszycka was born and raised. The artist inserted herself and other residents of Rokita to play the roles of protagonists of the poetic story of the peripheral settlement. The photographs taken during numerous photo sessions with the residents served as the starting material for a series of large-format paintings made with oil on canvas. The painting from the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin is a self-portrait. The prototype of the hooded figure lying in a forest glade is the artist herself – author, narrator and participant of the Pełnia – Realizacja project.
