Part of the collection: Szczecin souvenirs
As the capital of the Pomeranian Province, pre-war Szczecin was visited by many tourists. Various kinds of travel souvenirs, both watercolours and graphics, which were used as contemporary postcards, were extremely popular among them. Porcelain dishes made to order and then decorated with landscapes and characteristic places in Szczecin, such as the image of the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle and the old town hall in the Odra district, were also popular among visitors. One of the many examples of this kind of souvenir is a porcelain shoe decorated with a pattern and the coat of arms of Szczecin – a head of a red griffin, the symbol of princes from the Griffin dynasty, with a golden beak and a crown against a blue shield, along with German inscription Stettin. Such objects are extremely valuable for collectors these days.
