Cup

Part of the collection: Szczecin souvenirs

Popularization note

Porcelain cup found in Szczecin's Podzamcze district, in the quarter between Czwartkowa, Warzywna, Mała Odrzańska and Rybaki streets, during the archaeological works of the Archaeological Workshop of the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle in 2008. The cup was produced by Porzellan- und Glasmanufaktur Carl Wilhelm & Co in Deesbach, Thuringia, Germany. The factory was founded in 1870 by two brothers – Carl Wilhelm and Karl Baerschneider. It quickly became an international company, known both in Germany and abroad for their top-notch porcelain, characterised by the highest quality. The factory specialised mainly in the production of artistic porcelain and products such as mocha cups, vases, ashtrays, plates, and fruit platters. It was also known for gift items, decorated with vistas and coats of arms made of polished gold. The manufactured objects with tasteful, hand-painted decorations were exceptional works of art, which brought them enormous popularity. These days, they are sought after by many collectors. After the end of World War II, the VEB Zierporzellanwerke Lichte became the legal successor of the company.
