A photograph of Krystyna (Fanny) Kurc with Stefan Wajcman and his sister

The photo is from the period of Krystyna (Fanny) Kurc's stay in Grochów. Jadwiga Wajcman stands in front of the porch with her niece (Halina Wajcman's daughter), the shorter one, and Krystyna, with a bow on her head; Stefan Wajcman is partially visible. We don't know who took the photo, maybe Jadwiga’s and Stefan father, Antoni Wajcman?

The main motivation of the Wajcman family, apart from the democratic views of Antoni Wajcman (born in 1885, from 1905 he was a member of the PPS, moreover a political exile in Siberia), was, as Krystyna Tibik (Fanny Kurc) recalled in her account, his conviction that through saving as many lives as possible, their arrested daughter, Zofia Wajcman, would also survive. Krystyna Tibika recalled that Antoni would come out to the gate and wait for her return every day. Zofia Wajcman was first in Pawiak, then in concentration camps, including Ravensbrück. She survived.

From the post-war account of Wajcman (Archives of the Jewish Historical Institute, reference number 301/472; of 1 June 1945), it appears that Krystyna was initially hidden in return for money - for the first six months (Wajcman received 1,200 PLN per month), until her parents died. The account also shows that the Wajcman family helped eight people, incl. Józef Keller, whom Antoni knew from before the war from the PPS circles (it was thanks to Keller that Fanny Kurc later found their way to them).
