The ceramic box was discovered during excavations in Szczecin Podzamcze, within quarter V, between Czwartkowa, Warzywna, Mała Odrzańska and Rybaki streets. The box is a porcelain souvenir, which would be bought by visitors coming to pre-war Szczecin. It was produced by a porcelain factory located in the small village of Martinroda in Thuringia, Germany, which operated since ca. 1900. The Porzellanfabrik Martinroda Friedrich Eger&Co was founded by a father and son – Friedrich and Hermann Eger. It did not take long until the company went international, becoming well-known both in Germany and abroad for its exquisite porcelain of the highest quality. The factory produced souvenirs and fancy goods, utilitarian and decorative porcelain, as well as openwork plates and mocha cups. They presented their products at various exhibitions, including the international fair held in Leipzig, the largest exhibition centre in the world. With the outbreak of World War II, the company stopped production, resuming it in 1946.
