With a bucket

Popularization note

The depiction of Dwoliński, a miller hiding Mira and her mother Adela Krum, walking (there is a clear suggestion of movement in the silhouette) with a bucket full of impurity. He is heading for the toilet.

The image was used as a montage in Mira Ledowski-Krum's relationship. It illustrates the everyday reality of hiding in the mill in Beremiany: the necessity of taking a bucket-niche with waste from the hiding place every evening. Krum Dwoliński, who was hiding Mira and her mother Adela, went with it to a common toilet for all neighbours, which was located far from the houses, near the road, by the fence. As Mira notes: , If any of the neighbours smelled it, they would know that there were Jews there. Because the people living in those houses would go to that little house in any weather.
