Horsewhip hanger, France, late 19th century. An elegant, polished and freely standing hanger for horsewhips; it has a rolled stem which is set in the centre of a large, round and moulded base with three rollers for moving it at the bottom. On the outside, there are brass, rhythmically placed, circular intaglio supports for whip ends. At the upper part of the stem, four round and moulded shelves were placed, one above the other with supports or clasps for whips. The stem is topped with a stylised cone. This impressive horsewhip hook is one from a twin set which formed the fitouts of the Harness Room of Count Mikołaj Potocki in his Parisian stables at Av. Friedland. After the Count’s death in 1921, as part of inheritance (as Mikołaj Potocki made distant cousin, Alfred Antoni Potocki, fourth ordynat, his successor), together with other movables from the Parisian stables, both hangers were moved to Łańcut.
