Postcard (MZŁ-DRM-2004) A postcard published by H.Trompeter in ca. 1930 depicts a fragment of the southern frontage of the Market Square with a view of the Bałuciński family townhouse, as well as a tobacco shop, which was leased by a certain Bazyli Pyptiuk. The Bałuciński family townhouse, which was originally a single-storey building, was expanded in the 1920s. An additional floor and an attic were added, to make it possible to run a restaurant and a hotel. The company was established by Józefa Bałucińska in ca. 1910 and later taken over by her son Władysław, a local social activist. The restaurant was cheap, which made its offering accessible to local craftsmen and peasants coming to Łańcut to trade, as well as to travelers. In addition to the hotel, the upper floors also housed the owners’ apartment, who moved to the nearby Clerks’ Casino for the renovation, renting some of its rooms. The Casino building visible in the photo on the right was erected on the lot, which used to be occupied by the first post office in Łańcut. It was built in 1894 as the seat of the Casino Society established around 1880. Both described buildings were located by the so-called imperial road, which crossed the Market Square, built in 1797-1810. Joanna Kluz
