Under the floor

Popularization note

The depiction of three figures under the floor, framed as a long thick line. All figures are with curled up legs. On the left, a man with his head covered with his hands, light-coloured with light vertical lines trousers, dark torso , black shoes . The woman in the centre is wearing a headscarf, checkered skirt, dark upper garment; feet are not visible. The woman embraces a child, dressed in light clothing.

The image was used as a montage cut (included two times) in an account of the fate of the Krum family. Initially, she was hidden in the mill by the Dwoliński family. They denounced her. A German soldier first questioned the Dwoliński family. The Krums waited under the floor and listened, especially Adela Krum, who knew German, to the conversation. After the interrogation failed for him, the German ordered his subordinate to check the floor with a rifle butt. Excerpt from the interview: I don't really believe in God and I am not a religious man, all mysticism is off limits to me. But the soldier knocked on the post. And there was no echo... It is said: the finger of God.
