Main Market Square in Cracow

The history of the Main Market Square in Cracow dates back to the thirteenth century. It is one of the largest market squares in Europe. The position of the market was determined in 1257. It has the shape of a regular square and connects 11 streets. Almost all the buildings on the Main Market Square are historic. The first pavement was laid in the second half of the fourteenth century. In 1882, a narrow-gauge tram line leading through the Main Market Square was launched, in the 1950s, trams finally disappeared from the Main Market Square, and in 1979 the Main Market Square was closed to car traffic.
