Our Lady of Skępe
1901 — 1950
National Museum in Szczecin
A group of unprofessional folk style sculptures created in the 1960s and 1990s. Works by three folk artists who settled in West Pomerania after 1945: Edward Kołacz (1909 - 1991), Zygmunt Skrętowicz (1902 - 1971) and Tadeusz Kowalski (1939 - 2011)]. These artists, basing on traditional folk carving, created their own, original carving styles of great aesthetic and technical value (wood carving). They are outstanding representatives of a group of self-born artists whose works, although their content and form are often distant from the folk prototype, are a continuation of folk art.
