Fire Screen

Fire Screen Fire screens forming a part of the fireplace fitouts played a dual role: utilitarian and decorative. Together with changes in fashion, their forms changed too; however, the basic structure comprising three or four wings, sometimes richly decorated with ornaments in line with the current style, remained fixed. The fire screen from the Potocki collection, made of gilded bronze, dates back to the 19th century. It is a folded fire screen, made of four panels that could be transported with the use of two handles placed on the external parts. Every wing of the fire screen comprises a metal rectangular frame with a fanciful upper edge, filled with delicate mesh. The wings are combined with the use of a wire ended with an acorn-shaped pinnacle at the top. At the obverse side (the room), the frames were profiled.
