Podhale Carriage

Part of the collection: Vehicles and harnesses

Popularization note

Two-seat Podhale carriage with a seat for a two-horse team from the first quarter of the 20th century is a vehicle from the collection of nearly 100 horse-drawn vehicles gathered by the museum in Łańcut and made available to visitors. It includes vehicles of different kind, from presentable to rustic, from 18th to 20th century. They come primarily from museum purchases; only a few were donated. Most of them have undergone general conservation or restoration, already when belonging to the museum’s collection. The Podhale carriage was repaired in the carriage workshop of the Bogajewicz family in Pniewy. It was bought by the museum in 1977. It is a kind of a carriage with travelling purposes in natural wood colour. It has a wooden, box body, with low side walls with a two-seater main seat with a low gallery – back with balusters and carriage backrest and a box seat in front with a flat mattress, with lantern holders on both sides. The front mudguard is straight, the side ones are bent, interrupted in the middle, with an iron step hanging from an extension, by the footstool. Upholstery in brown leather. Wooden parts with curled spots; metal parts lacquered, black. Aldona Cholewianka-Kruszyńska
