Wacław Zaboklicki was Wojciech Gerson’s disciple in 1897-1899. He perfected his skills in Munich and Paris, and he also sought inspiration during numerous trips to Russia in 1898, Italy in 1901 and France in 1904-1912. The artist's works prove the influence of French Impressionism and the work of Władysław Ślewiński, who also attended the Wojciech Gerson Drawing School in Warsaw. The painting Brzeż morza w Ker-Groës [The Seashore at Ker-Groës] from 1909, acquired from the artist for the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin in 1958, shows clear links with his oeuvre, for example, also with the French landscape Morze w Le Pouldu [The Sea at Le Pouldu] from around 1896 (private collection), which depicts the area around Bas Pauldu, where the artist settled the year the work was created. A year later, he joined the newly founded Society of Polish Artists Sztuka in Kraków.Zaboklicki painted his picture during a trip to France. The composition was created with oil on cardboard. The landscape is simplified. In the foreground, there are boulders by the seashore. In front, the level of the shoreline of the bay is visible, and loosely built-up houses rise just above it. Everything has been rendered in chilly colours in shades of bleached green, beiges, greys and contrasting stained white. Everything has been closed with a clear outline in black.
