Part of the collection: Photography
The photograph depicts a fragment of the park of Łańcut with the south-western corner of the moat and wall, and the orangery in the inner park, from the south, with fragments of the crowns of lime trees in the alley by the moat. This lime tree alley was planted around the moat by princess Izabella Lubomirska (d. 1816) after the embankments, formerly in front of the moat, were removed. The earth embankments, with the walls and moat, constituted the Łańcut fortifications created in the 17th century. At the end of the 18th century, the system was useless, hence, inside the moat, directly at the castle, the first garden was established, with lime tree alleys planted where the embankments around the moat were removed. In the very beginning, in the 19th century, princess Lubomirska established the orangery closing off the court from the south. Roman Potocki, the third ordinary, established the rose garden at the southern tower, during the then-contemporary upgrade and refurbishment works of the residence. Aldona Cholewianka-Kruszyńska
