In pre-war Szczecin, beer was a popular drink consumed by inhabitants, as evidenced by the existence of around 100 breweries at the time. In fact, every district had its own brewery, but it should be remembered that the term brewery at the time was primarily understood to mean the right to brew beer, linked to a particular person or place. The most popular brands in the city were Bergschloss, Elysium and Bohrisch. The latter is a brewery founded by Julius Albrecht Weidmann in 1848, which began its proper history in 1861, when it was taken over by Julius Furchtegott Bohrisch, owner of the Polish Brewery in Dresden. Bohrisch immediately renamed the factory and began investing in it. By the end of the 19th century, the brewery was already producing 37 hectolitres of beer a year. Although part of the installation was occupied by the imperial army for its needs and beer production declined, the factory withstood the general economic crisis caused by the First World War. It continued to operate during the subsequent war, and the people of Szczecin could still drink Bohrisch until three months before the Red Army entered the city. In 1946, the State Breweries in Szczecin (now Bosman Brewery) began operating on the premises of the mostly undamaged plants. In addition to the presented container for 30 bottles with holes in the bottom to allow the spilled liquid to drain away, many items with the trademarks of the Bohrisch Brauerei AG company have survived to this day. The collection of the Szczecin History Museum includes a ceramic cap, an opener, three glass beer bottles and a colourful enamel advertising board. Advertisements can also be found in Szczecin's pre-war newspapers and magazines, completing the range of various marketing activities promoting the brand. Małgorzata Peszko
