Świętokrzyska Street in Warsaw

Świętokrzyska Street in Warsaw is one of the oldest roads in the capital, officially confirmed in 1770. The missionaries established a farm, which they called Świętokrzyskie, through the middle of which ran today's Świętokrzyska Street. The wooden buildings located in this place burned down in 1656 during the Swedish Deluge. In the eighteenth century, this street was paved and built with tenement houses reaching the second floor. A large part of the buildings of Świętokrzyska Street was destroyed in September 1939 during the defence of Warsaw. During the reconstruction of Warsaw, it was decided to widen the previously narrow street. Since the 1950s, reconstructions and extensions of buildings have been carried out, and the Świętokrzyski Park has been established. In 2011, the work on the construction of the M2 Warsaw metro line under Świętokrzyska Street was initiated.
