Bust of Augustus

Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: Sculptures
The bust is a miniature copy of an ancient bust (a Roman copy of a Hellenistic sculpture from the 3rd century B.C.; bronze, height 56 cm), found in the collection of the Museo Nazionale in Naples. In earlier literature it referred to the so-called Heraclitus, more recently – to a bust of a scholar. It presents an older man en face, with his head slightly tilted forward. A face with expressive features, with deep-set eyes, sunken cheeks, covered with wrinkles, with a moustache and a beard made of curled locks. Hair arranged in locks around the parietal baldness.
