Part of the collection: Correspondence from Emilia Endler Ratz
The letter to Emilia Ratz from Halina Altman (see description of Altman family history in note to letter MPOLIN-A8.1.3.). The letter written in Russian, on two blank pages, in pencil. Contents: My Dears. | Due to my trip to Moscow, I could not write to you earlier. I have been here 4 days [...] [unread.] A great spiritual solitude (if one can say so) has a few days' trip to the Capital been the best entertainment. [...] In connection with this inactivity, an unhealthy diversification of my time is beginning to take place with entertainments whose intellectual and moral level does not suit me at all. The atmosphere has become extremely heavy, all the dirt has come to the surface. So I was very happy when I found out that I could take a holiday. The road was quite difficult, but I found myself in a different world. I spent the first few days of my stay in Moscow meeting up with old friends of mine (there are your friends too) and my father. I got acquainted with all the current issues concerning the life of our nation. We are facing important events that may take place any day now. Unfortunately, not everyone here is thoroughly aware of the mood of the people and, as a result, they make many mistakes. I have seen Mietek, Sonia and many others. Niura and Roma are in the second division, apparently they are doing well. I recently received a card from Lusi on her way to the 3rd division, she is terribly happy about it. Baczko, unfortunately, has stayed for now, he is said to be extremely bitter about it. But I think this will settle down in the near future. | It seems to me that all those who managed to get into the army can count themselves lucky. I personally feel most at home here. | The first few days after the visit to Moscow, I will write about the impression Moscow made on me, as I have just started to see it. | How are your affairs? What about Mila and Marcin's diploma and work? What is Jerzyk doing? Write often! | I give you my love and best wishes | Halina.
