Bouillon saucer

The saucer and bouillon cup (inventory no. S. 11668 MŁ) were made in the second quarter of the 18th c. in the porcelain factory in Meissen. Founded by Augustus II the Strong in 1710, it was the first European porcelain factory. The saucer's lip is decorated with painted genre scenes in the chinoiserie style framed by Rococo cartouches made out of rocaille, shells, tent-shaped ornaments, lambrequins, and bunches of flowers and reeds. The rim is encircled by a gilded ornamental strip made out of flowers, plants and channel motifs. The wide lip is separated from the well by a profiled ring accentuated by a gilded strip with arcades. On the well, there is a painted twig with flowers. Barbara Trojnar
