Photograph of unrecognised woman
1910 — 1927
Museum of the history of Polish Jews
Part of the collection: Photographs from the collection of Halina Kamińska (Mamelok) née Baruch
The photograph of a woman, glued on atelier's lithographed cardboard box, with gold embossed logo of the Częstochowa atelier on the obverse and company print on the reverse; slightly rounded corners of the box. At the bottom on the reverse, there is the handwritten inscription in French: Flirtuje kto chce, kocha kto może (Flirts who wants, loves who can), with the date and initials in brackets, but the initials may indicate the author or the author of the words (if it is a quotation - not recognised). It is possible to speculate who the woman depicted was, but it is difficult to support it with strong arguments. Given the only known photo of Helena nee Grossmanowa, the youngest daughter of Ewelina nee Wolfson Grossmanowa (at the same time a niece of Diana nee Baruchowa), despite a certain similarity, we cannot claim with certainty that this is her image. It is especially as the handwriting on the back differs from the handwriting in the letter on that photo (other initials than hers do not have to speak against identification). It could also have been one of Helena's cousins on her father's side of the family, but this hypothesis is contradicted by the fact that the photo was found among the Baruchs' keepsakes. Similarly as in the case of the photograph with the next number in the collection, it is difficult to put forward hypotheses concerning the identity of the depicted woman.
