Part of the collection: Rzeźby
Allegory of Water. The sculpture is part of a group of sculptures created by Jan Albrecht Siegwitz and Jan Adam Karinger between 1729 and 1734. It was originally located in the palace garden in Brzezinka near Oleśnica, from where it was moved around 1950 to the palace gardens of the Museum in Wilanów. In 1961, the entire group was transferred to the Castle Museum in Łańcut, where it was exhibited in the western part of the park, and in 1999, it was moved to the inner courtyard of the castle. Currently, the sculptures are located in the Carriage House.
The sandstone sculpture depicts a pair of putti embracing each other. The putto on the left, with a girlish hairstyle, rests its left leg on the head of a creature with fins. A drapery passes over its shoulder, the folds of which cover the hips of both figures. Its left hand rests on the shoulder of the second putto, which, in turn, holds a fish with both hands. Its face is tilted and directed toward the putto leaning on it. It gives the impression that the putto holding the fish is saying something to the other. The sculpture shows damage to the hand and foot of the putto on the left.
