Part of the collection: Correspondence from Emilia Endler Ratz
The letter from Halina Altman to Emilia and Marcin Ratz in Russian - contents of letter written on first two pages. On the third page a letter from Halina Altman's father, Henryk Altman, to Emilia and Marcin Ratz, also in Russian, two weeks later than the letter on which he wrote himself. Cards folded for mailing in a triangle, the stamp survived. From the text of Halina Altman's letter: As far as you are concerned, the matter is very complicated. I have already written to you about it, at the time I was not yet sure how you should act. Now I think, and I believe it is right, that you should definitely finish your studies. If we are talking about me, Lusia [probably Lucyna Herc], etc., it will be a completely different conversation. We, not having any specialized education, bring a minimal benefit here. I do not know whether we will bring a greater one at the front, but I do know one thing, that my only wish is to fight directly against these enemies of all mankind. From the contents of Henryk Altman's letter (see description of his fate in the note to letter MPOLIN-A8.1.3.): On 24.06 Halina went to the army. I greeted her in Mołotów and saw her off on 28.06. I have already received one letter from her. The famous Altman family is represented in the First Polish Kościuszko Division by my daughter Halina. (The division mentioned in the last sentence was a Polish formation forming part of the Red Army).
