Photograph of Diana Barlińska (?) with a letter to Józef Maybaum (Marzyński)

Popularization note

Full-face portrait photograph of a woman in an atelier, wearing a headdress and holding a book (?) in her hand - the woman resembles Diana Barlinska (Baruchowa; mother of Halina Mamelok, née Baruchowa). It was also she who wrote the letter on the back (signature: Wasza D., as on other letters in the collection photographs; the handwriting is identical to that known from other letters, especially from the letter on the back of a photograph from Tyrol from probably 1908). | The photograph is probably humorous - the woman, as we can suppose, is standing in disguise; the funny remark at the end of the letter probably refers to this disguise: I have a lot of lessons, but I'll start pronouncing because I'm blowing out of here soon. The body of the letter mentions the name of Mr and Mrs Dobrzyński, who were to deliver (send?) the parcel. Preserved two stamps and two postmarks with the date 10.10.21 and a little blurred but quite legible, place of dispatch: Inowrocław. The addressee is identified as Dr Józef Maybaum | Marzyński | Łódź | Piotrkowska 175 - this is the husband of Stefania née Grossman (see especially the photographs in the collection with the numbers MPOLIN-A25.1.80 and MPOLIN-A25.1.91); in the address appears the second surname, Marzyński, used by the family, as it can be assumed, since the turn of the second and third decade of the 20th century. The letter dated: '12/X.' (with a note - humorous - 'Gubernia Piotrkowska'), i.e. probably with a later date than that of posting, closer to the addressee's birthday: 15 October.
