Cow

Piotr Michałowski is a painter who painted in the romantic spirit. He studied law in Göttingen, at the same time he often painted horses and developed his interest in history. At that time, he also became acquainted with the main Romantic ideas. He returned to his homeland in 1823 and after the fall of the uprising went to France. He settled again in his homeland in 1835. In 1840, he moved to the Bolestraszyce estate near Przemyśl. He is best known for his portraits of horses. His works were referred to by numerous painters who painted pictures on this theme. In the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin, there is a work that shows the artistry of painting animals. The work comes from the period when Michałowski lived in Bolestraszyce estate. The painting depicting a cow was composed horizontally. The cow was portrayed from the side. The shape of the animal's torso was rendered with streaks of lavender and bands of rhythmic short lines. The fur of the head and jowls is darker. Front legs are short. Above the lower edge, the ground plane is marked with lavation.
