Part of the collection: Vehicles and harnesses
Volante carriage is a vehicle from the collection of nearly 100 horse-drawn vehicles gathered by the museum in Łańcut and made available to visitors. It includes vehicles of different kind, from presentable to rustic, from 18th to 20th century. They come primarily from museum purchases; only a few were donated. Most of them have undergone general conservation or restoration, already when belonging to the museum’s collection. This volante carriage was produced in the carriage factory of Stefan Przewoski in Starogard Gdański and is the only surviving vehicle from this factory. It was purchased for the museum in 1983 and in the same year it underwent a general renovation in the carriage workshop run by the Bogajewicz family in Pniewy. It is a kind of elegant, comfortable, luxurious leisure carriage with a two-seater main seat with full wooden, upholstered side and rear backrests and an additional folding bench for one young person or child seating backwards, and with a two-seater box coachman seat in the front. The step of the body is flat. The coachman seat is boxed with a profiled mattress and lantern holders on both sides. The front mudguard is straight, the side ones are bent, interrupted in the middle, connected by an iron step hanging from a long extension. Wooden and metal parts are lacquered.
