Cinema poster for `It gets better`

In the interwar repertoire of Polish cinemas, domestic comedies invariably enjoyed popularity. In 1936, the film Będzie lepiej [It will Be Better] starred Lviv comedians Kazimierz Wajda, a radio announcer, and Henryk Vogelfanger, a lawyer educated in the profession. They created an unforgettable duo of the smug Szczepcio and naive Tońko, who conducted witty dialogues in a dialect characteristic of the Lviv suburbs. Thanks to the popular programme Wesoła lwowska fala [Happy Lviv Wave] broadcast on the Polish Radio, they gained popularity. They made their debut on the silver screen thanks to Michał Waszyński, the director, who cast them in the leading roles in a comedy with the optimistic title Będzie lepiej. The dialogue for the film was written by Emanuel Schlechter, a Lviv native and author of many songs. Famous actors took part in the production - beautiful Loda Niemirzanka, Aleksander Żabczyński, an amateur of Polish cinema, as well as Antoni Fertner and Stanisław Sielański, famous for their comedic roles.

The film is set in Lviv and Warsaw. The adventures of two amiable Lviv musicians who take care of a baby abandoned in a park are combined with the love affairs of a wealthy woman from Warsaw and the owner of a toy factory in Lviv. A series of amusing misunderstandings led to the happy ending already announced in the title.

When, in the spring of 1939, another film with Szczepcio and Tońko, entitled Włóczęgi [The Tramps], was released, the first comedy starring them was also remembered. For two days, the Lublin "Rialto" cinema screened, as the billboard proclaimed, "the funniest comedy of Polish production", starring the two "charming batiars."
