Bowl in the shape of cabbage leaves

Part of the collection: Ceramics

Popularization note

A bowl shaped like cabbage leaves The bowl of white-milk fine porcelain was made by the English pottery Copeland in Stoke-on-Trent in the late 19th century. The factory was founded in 1770 by Josiah Spode. From 1829 it was owned by William Taylor Copeland; from 1847, it belonged to W.T. Copeland company, between 1867 to 1932, to W.T. Copeland & Sons, and it is still working. The bowl surface is modelled in the shape of six cabbage leaves arranged alternately. The leaves on the outside of the vessel are naturalistically reproduced, but inside, they lose their plastic expressiveness. The six-leaved rim of the bowl is slightly turned outwards. The collection of the Castle Museum in Łańcut possesses five such bowls: the above one and four smaller ones (shaped like one cabbage leaf).
