Part of the collection: Interiors
Historical names: The Room Painted in Marble (early 19th c. ); the Lounge (mid- 19th c.)
Time of construction: 1629-1641; ca. 1775
Architects: likely Maciej Trapola (1629-1641), Szymon Bogumił Zug (ca.1775).
Description:
The one-story apartment located in the northern wing, called the Turkish Apartment, belongs to the original 17th-century vaulted interiors of the Łańcut castle erected by Prince Stanisław Lubomirski (1583-1649), the first of this family to own Łańcut. Around 1775, during the times of Prince Stanisław Lubomirski, GCM, and his wife, Duchess Izabela née Czartoryska (1736-1815), an apartment "painted in marble" was arranged here. Consisting of a large living room in the middle with a vast arcade and a bedroom and dressing room, the suite was decorated with an illusionist polychrome in a monochromatic range grey-orange with the surfaces of the walls and the vault imitating marble (it was called "Turkish" in the second half of the 19th century during the times of the second Łańcut ordinate, probably because of the exotic oil wall decoration in the bedroom that was used at that time and removed in 1959).
The first part of the interior in front of a vast arcade, arranged as a dining room, is a rectangular room with a barrel-cross vault, two windows in the northern wall and a single-wing door leading from the northern corridor. The walls and vaults are covered (discovered in 1959-60 during restoration carried out by Bronisław Dąbek and Józef Edward Dutkiewicz) with illusionist paintings from the 1780s, brought to life by classicist motifs - imitating marbling and architectural divisions: with vaulted frames, arches, and arcaded niches coffers in the arches and framing of shield walls decorated with a monochrome stripe with arabesque motifs (which corresponds with the historical name "the Room Painted in Marble").
