Photograph of Joseph Mamelok in Switzerland, with a letter to him
1914
Museum of the history of Polish Jews
Part of the collection: Photographs from the collection of Halina Kamińska (Mamelok) née Baruch
The photograph of two men: standing on the right wearing a butcher's apron, with a knife; by unplastered walls - barracks? It should be noted that the photograph differs strikingly in its style and subject matter from other photographs in the collection. It dates from the years of the First World War. On the back of the photograph, there is a letter (calligraphic writing, in pen, in Polish, which, however, contrasts with the style, the author was unaccustomed to writing in Polish); the entire content (original spelling): On 8 July 1916 Dear Parents I sent on 7 July 100 Mark so as soon as you receive this money I ask you Here to write me back at once and now I ask you, Dear Parents, when this Woman brings this letter, please give her this suit as I need it very much here you can't buy anything as there are no Civilians at all only Soldiers, so I ask you Dear Parents come to me what I ask you S[from Syn - Son?] B.B.
