Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: Furniture and interior furnishings
The Łańcut residence, belonging to the Potocki fee tail estates and nationalised by the agrarian reform in 1944, became the beginning of the national museum. In its endeavours, the Castle-Museum focused not only on securing, preserving, and making the castle interiors and their furnishings accessible to the public, but it also enriches the collections with its own purchases or sponsored donations, contributing to the preservation of the cultural-material heritage and the conservation of the atmosphere of the house of a well-known aristocratic family on the museum's expositions. The displayed piece of furniture is an acquisition of the Museum-Castle in Łańcut, which came from donations. The gilded, decorated with woodcarvings, and upholstered item was added to the furnishings of the Rococo Salon on the second floor of the castle. In the second half of the 19th century, the Rococo Salon, together with neighbouring rooms, belonged to the apartments of subsequent young married couples from the Potocki family: Alfred II and his wife, Maria (née Sanguszko), and Roman and his wife, Elżbieta (née Radziwiłł). The set of Louis XV-style (Rococo) French furniture collected by the museum in the salon, complements the atmosphere of a private home from the time of the fashion for past historical styles, in this case, the second Rococo. The carpentry master who made the displayed chair is not known. It complements the set of decorative chairs similar in shape but different in the details, marked with the symbol of their maker (see S.10674MŁ; S.10675MŁ; S.10676MŁ; S.10677MŁ; S.10678MŁ).
