Portrait of Ignacy Cetner A full-figure portrait of Ignacy Cetner by an unknown painter, from the 18th century, from the former collection of the Potocki family. The painting represents the Sarmatian type, observing its basic criteria, i.e.: the costume – a zupan (nobleman’s coat), delia, a sabre at the man’s side, the other hand laying on a calpac on a table, in the background a column and a hanging curtain. The man is depicted with a large ribbon and a great star of the Order of the White Eagle, which he received in August 1762. Ignacy Cetner of the Przerowa Coat of Arms (1728–1787) was the son of Antoni, the starost of Korytnice, and Anna, née Krasicka. During the interregnum, he supported the candidacy of Pantler Poniatowski and belonged to the Czartoryski camp. After the election of Stanisław Poniatowski as king, he was given the title of Voivode of Bełz, from which he resigned a few years later to accept the title of Count from Maria Theresa. A gardener by avocation, he was an authority in this field, and was not particularly interested in politics. He was also a mediocre land owner, losing his estates; after the partitions he owned Przemyśl, which was then a private city, for several years. He remained in the memory of his contemporaries as a shy, gentle and hesitant man, but also willing to help others in need. The portrait in question shows him as a mature man, unlike the second of his portraits in the possession of the Castle Museum in Łańcut, painted by Mirys, where Cetner is shown as a young man. The painting in question is undoubtedly the work of a provincial painter, as evidenced by its level, not very successful perspective and the flatness of the image; the portrait has iconographic significance.
